Welcome to the first follow up email from our first Membership Meeting of 2018. I hope everyone had an opportunity to spend some time with friends and family over this Holiday Season. I would like to thank Angie Olivas for her guidance and encouragement as our Past President and for all of her hard work this past year. I would also like to thank the Board of 2017 for doing such an outstanding job of running the Association, and the Board of 2018 looks to continue in that tradition.
I also want to thank all of you who were able to attend this morning. I encourage you to invite your office mates and fellow Realtors to join us for our Monthly Membership Meetings. After each monthly meeting, I will be sending an email to the membership with the handouts or informational links discussed during our meetings. My goal for this year is to continue to make our meetings educational, informative, productive and relative to our industry. If you have suggestions, topics, ideas, or want to get more involved, I encourage you to contact me. My cell is easy: 575-808-1500.
Our speaker this morning, and our meeting sponsor, was Becky Kesterson from City Bank. As with our industry, there are numerous changes in mortgage regulations effective January 2018. She introduced some programs that are available, and provided us with some handouts. A couple of things that are not listed on the handouts are Barndominiums and 2nd Liens. If you have any questions, please reach out to Becky at 575-257-2265.
As with mortgage law, new rules with the NM Real Estate Commission are now in effect as January 1. If your birthday is coming up, or just passed, make sure you review the checklist to allow for time to complete the new requirements. The Core Class B is ready for 2018 and will be offered in Ruidoso on February 19. Even if you just took the Core A in December, and you renew in early 2018, you still must take this class.
Don’t forget you MUST have 36 hours of CE.
QB’s – You must attend a NMREC meeting or Disciplinary Hearing, take the QB Refresher (even if you are exempt as of 2011) and taken 8 hours of electives in your specialty.
Here is the link to the Real Estate Commissions Planning Guide for 2018. On the last pages of this link, there are worksheets for Brokers and QBs to assist in tracking the completion necessary requirements.
The Education Committee will be meeting next month to work on scheduling our CE for the next few months. When classes become available, please make a point to sign up early so those who need the classes for license renewal feel assured that it won’t be canceled due to lack of participation. Education is a big emphasis at the Commission level, and we want to do everything we can to make sure it’s as accessible as possible for you to complete yours locally.
The Bylaws Committee, Mary Weaver, Kelli Cox, and Kim McClure, has done an ENORMOUS undertaking of updating our bylaws. We, as a group, must approve each change. Please watch your inboxes for the meeting details.
Cindy Lynch shared with us some updates from the Tax Reform Act as it relates to our industry. It is a bit lengthy, but well worth the watch. Please take the time to do so.
