Welcome to the first of many updates from your Community Connections Committee. The committee was formed to keep abreast of the goings on with the Village of Ruidoso and Lincoln County.
The committee jumped right into business by attending via YouTube the Village of Ruidoso Workforce Housing Advisory Board on April 22, 2021. During this meeting, the Housing Board was presented with information on a property located at 603 Mechem Dr. as a proposed location for workforce housing. The property is 5.3 acres with access from Mechem. Members of the Housing Board felt it was a good use for the property as it is close to Albertsons (including pharmacy); Thriftway and ENMU were mentioned as a plus, very walkable.
The property was recently listed for $693,000 and that the property is now held in a trust. The project would have to go through Planning and Zoning to approve usage. "Scoring" of this location would not provide the extra points because it's not located close enough to midtown.
The Workforce Housing Advisory Board made a recommendation to use this property as a possibility for Workforce Housing Development with all in favor.
Planning and Zoning typically meets the first Tuesday with the Village Council meeting the second Tuesday of the month. County Commissioners meet the third Tuesday of the month
