Don't Miss NAR's Transforming Neighborhoods Webinar Series
NAR is kicking off a six-part webinar series, Policy, Practice, Process: Transforming Neighborhoods through Equitable Revitalization. This free, virtual series will equip REALTORS® and association staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to meaningfully partner with local government to address vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties. Each session will feature actionable items for REALTORS® and their local government partners to consider. The first session, Systemic Vacancy: Community Costs and a Pathway Forward, is next Tuesday, March 16 at 2pm Eastern Time featuring Liz Kozub, Associate Director for Leadership and Education at the Center for Community Progress. The vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated (VAD) properties that plague many communities can be attributed to our nation’s historic land ownership policies and legal systems that perpetuate VAD properties and their negative impacts on communities. For communities working to overcome historic inequities, further devastation, like natural disasters or industry loss, can widen the equity gaps exponentially – stripping residents of the power to positively influence outcomes in the places they call home. During this session participants will learn:
The connections between historical and current day policies that lead to widespread vacancy
A framework for implementing a systematic approach to addressing vacant, abandoned and deteriorated properties
An overview of the key tools used by local government in the in the field of vacant property revitalization
How vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties affect and harm individuals, community stability, and create barriers for equitable development
