Fire Pits within Village Limits
Recently, the Village of Ruidoso updated the Open Fire Ordinance. Below is a summary of the new ordinance as it relates to outdoor recreational fires. These requirements apply to both wood burning and propane fire pits.
The device must be on a 6 foot diameter surface that is non-combustible, such as tile, concrete, or gravel.
The fire pit must be at least 15 feet from a structure and a water source or extinguisher must be immediately available.
An Open Fire Permit is required to operate any outdoor fire pit that produces an open and visible flame. These permits are issued by the Ruidoso Fire Department.
